| Scam contents | Fake credit report site to get a bogus report or steal your credentials. It could also just be a landing page that re-directs you to a credit report site like TransUnion in order to gain commission with each victim they lure to sign up. |
| Comment / Review | Some scammers offer a fake rental (or job, interest in a car) and link their victims to a shady credit report site in order to continue. This usually can go different ways but from past threads: - The site itself could be shady, made to get your personal information for identity thief. - The link offered is a dummy site, that redirects you to TransUnion (or another credit report site). The goal is to have their victims use their unique affiliate link to sign up so, they get a commission from it. The more ppl who sign up with their link, the more they get paid. Victim is left possibly with a subscription that may be hard to cancel and no actual rental/job. You shouldn't have to do any credit checks (esp or send money) when just booking an appointment to see the rental in person. This is often done after, and legally the landlord's responsibility- not yours. If this was for a car, remember to use reputable sites - not some sketchy one the scammer insists on.
