I just want to know if the funds were ever removed from your account. My husband got one of these emails and doesn't even have a PayPal account!

There is no money that is actually removed. This is a refund scam - they scammer replies on victims calling the fake support number.

It's a little involved, but once they call - the scammers claim they'll refund them, have them connect to their device then change the HTML of the website they're on to make it seem like they got more than the refund. The scammer then tells the victim to send the excess back via bitcoins or gift cards. (this is common but there may be other ways the scammer cons the victim)
