| Scam contents | Often scammers will offer fake jobs targeting people on freelancing sites. They offer rather good $$$ for "busy work" (translation, img to text, transcribing etc) Once victims are done, they are then moved over to a fake payment platform (usually fake bank) where the scammer claims their funds are held. The fake site then instructs them to PAY THE SCAMMER a fee before they can get their fake payment. Victims pay the fee then get nothing (maybe more excuses to pay the scammer) Other times, it can be a job scam with a fake check (to buy bogus work equipment) or use them as money mules. If sent personal info, they may also use their SSN/ID etc for identity thief. |
