| Comment / Review | There are many situations where it ends up a scam. Along with getting your personal information, here are a few situations that are common with fake jobs: - Fake check. They'll say you need to deposit a (fake) check to get your work equipment, get a expensive item or to pay another client of theirs. But in reality you'll be sending to the scammer before your bank finds the fake check. You'll be on the hook to pay the bank what was sent to the scammer and also risk getting your account closed due to fraud. - Advance fees They'll claim you need to pay upfront fee for work ID or to start the project. You pay these fake fees and will NOT get refunded - the money goes straight to the scammer. There is also the sunk cost fallacy, they have you do all the work then later claim you will need to pay upfront fees. Sometimes they have FAKE banks/crypto payment sites they lure you to register on.
